11/01/00: They changed the ending!!!!

Posted By: ModernRonin

Well, having seen this film subbed on video tape a long time ago and seeing it again, I have a couple of observations:

- It felt like some of the dubbing script was re-written to make the whole plot about as subtle as a sledgehammer to the forehead. However, it's quite possible the original was that way too.

- THEY CHANGED THE ENDING! The left out a scene! Right at the very end, you see Jackie Chan back in the back of the house and he's gone stone blind!

This is because the alcohol he drank in the steel mill was industrial alcohol - aka methanol or wood alcohol. A little as an ounce of methanol can cause permanant blindness. But it's much stronger than normal drinking alcohol - ethanol ("grain alcohol"). In prohibition days, unscrupulous distillers used to cut their products with methanol to make them stronger.

I thought this exclusion was pretty silly of them. This movie is pure fun, and it was a great twist to have there at the end.
