i wouldn't go so far as to trash mr. cranky, but you have a very good point about Les Mis. It is, simply put, the finest piece of literature ever thought of, much less written. Admittedly, it does take a little while to get going, what with the first 60 or so pages being the ramblings of the bishop of digne, but give it time. You'll find it worth your effort.
