RBB [voiceover]: I was flailing and screaming, and Princess was trying to restrain me.
PRINCESS OF PMS: Richard! Richard! Are you all right?
RBB: I think so. What happened?
PRINCESS OF PMS: You were yelling and screaming, and it seemed as if I had taken a shot at you, and ... well, it was terrifying. Are you all right?
RBB [voiceover]: My heart was slowing down to its normal rate, and my breathing was no longer in overdrive. I checked myself out, and I seemed OK, other than some soreness where Princess had had to grab my wrists. Ivan was standing at her elbow; he was still breathing hard, which led me to deduce that he had helped to restrain me during whatever the hell had happened to me. I looked out the window. The sun was still in the sky, so whatever had happened had happened almost instantaneously after she and I had started to lean towards each other.
RBB: What the hell *did* happen to me?
IVAN: It was seeming as if you were -- what is word I seek? -- control of someone else.
RBB: Control?
IVAN: Yes, da, control. That is word, exactness of word.
RBB [voiceover]: I knew that something was up. I knew that Hairhead had tried several times to undermine my control of myself, in each case in which I'd gone up against him. But I'd thought that I'd beaten every single one ... until now.
My hand strayed to the back of my head, where the surgical scar Hairhead and his coconspirators had left me with in my last case but one was still there, just under the edge of my hairline, just above my nec. Doc Rochelle had checked me out, but maybe, just this once, she had missed something.
Could it be that, I wondered? Or was it something else, something more ... recent?
RBB: The food.
PRINCESS OF PMS: What are you talking about?
RBB: We have to get me to an emergency room, right away.
PRINCESS OF PMS: Why?
RBB: I think I've been drugged with something, and I want it out of my system now.
