"Life is Beautiful" is one of the better films I have seen this year. It was visually beautiful, had an intriguing plot and had wonderful performances by Benigni and the little boy who played his son. I found the entire film to be emotionally exhausting, however. The first half was so wonderfully romantic and fantastic; the second half was devastatingly depressing. I found the stark contrast a bit alarming. When the film was over, I could not speak because I was so shocked and depressed. Really, it is a very moving piece of art. Absolutely lovely.
