I personally can never understand people who get all upset that the victims of the Holocaust (or slavery, or the Armenian massacre, or whatever)get a lot of publicity. Who would want to deserve that publicity? You want competition for suffering? What is this, some kind of Olympiad of suffering with an award for who suffered most? Save your anger for those who commit atrocities, not those who suffer them.
The very nature of the Nazi attack on the Jews (and the Gypsies) is what makes it so intriguing for writers and film makers. It wasn't just a bunch of hooligans riding into town in their tanks and shooting, etc. They erected this whole elaborate structure, with the camps and gas chambers, and ovens, to eliminate a small, select, group of people. And now a lot of evidence comes out that they did it in order to get rich from loot, with prejudice as window-dressing.
Why not write a book about the Catholics who died under Stalin? He certainly was a bastard, and one Americans really don't know much about.
