05/30/02: Loved the movie

Posted By: Juan

The movie historically is the closest to Schindler's List. I liked the fact that Guido would do anything to keep his son from being scared and hateful toward life becuase he learned from to make the best of what he had, to never lose hope (I don't care what you say without love or hope, YOU'RE SCREWED), and to be happy for what he has. Giving humor doesn't make people turn away to any given subject so quickly and I find irony is one of the best teachers in life! Besides, who wants to have every holocaust movie to be such a downer when really it wasn't as bad as if the Nazis would've succeeded. An example being some escaped before it got worse, many were saved (some by those who were actually Nazis themselves), and quite a few managed to squeeze through by claiming another, untargeted nationality or by simply looking German, Dutch or any other "safety" ethnicity. I know, I studied it emensely and I have suvivors, helpers, and criminals of the Holocaust.
