Personally, I prefer to use "goddamned," and variant "goddamn" in cases involving the profane (in the old sense of "Not having to do with religion.") e.g., "Goddamned bus is late," "It's goddamn stupid," etc.
I think that "God damn" is best used in an invocation to the deity, e.g., "May God damn the brewery that made this shit!" "May God damn your bratty, juvenile-delinquent kid!" (An acceptable alternative when true mayhem has been caused by said brat might be "May God FUCK your bratty, juvenile-delinquent kid!" I have used both, and the latter seems to elicit a stronger response.)
