It seems that lots of people are discussing whether it's suitable to make a "comedy" movie about the lot of Jews in WW2 or not. Well, that may be so, but the point about this movie is that it is lousy movie (few people seem to mention this), a fact that is clearly confirmed by its Academy nomination for an Oscar, which really is the kiss of death. Some people (like me) prefer European (or "art house") movies to Hollywood car chases, while others prefer Hollywood to Europe. The thing about this movie, which is European, is that it's liked by American movie aficionados and dislikes by European movie fans. Bergnini has made a bad slapstick movie, intended to be funny (it isn't) and touching (it's over the top and lacrimous). And you can really say that "any similarity between this film and real characters, situations, etc., is pure coincidence" with total conviction. A boring movie made by an actor that should be physically restrained.
