10/28/97: a lifeless ordinary movie

Posted By: chatnoir

Okay. The trailer didn't exactly grab me, but I thought, what the hey. I liked both Trainspotting and Shallow Grave. I should have followed my gut instincts. The film opens, there is all this white-white clothes, white environment. We are in heaven. The movie rapidly downspirals from there. Ewan MacGregor is cute and winsome while Cameron DIaz exhibits the emotional range of a dead flounder. No sparks between the leads, not even a fizzle. The end, where they blather nonsense while scenes from the film are replayed behind them, made me wish I could set Begbie from Trainspotting on the lot of them.
