What's up with this guy? You know Cranky is indiscriminating when it comes to slagging off every new release, and I had to agree with him on this one. I'm totally opposed to the death penalty, it's archaic, barbaric and anachronistic and I think the price we have to pay for living in a civilised and democratic society is that we have to tolerate the existance of people who commit horrific crimes. We don't have to let them do it, we quite properly lock them away so they can't get at decent people, but we don't snuff them out as an act of self righteous vindication in the name of justice. It's impossible to defend a system that punished murder by killing people, no matter what kind of pompuus rhetoric you attach to it, or how humanely it's carried out. 'An eye for an eye' was the mandate of a nomadic, barbaric and tribal people who lived in the desert thousands of years ago, and does not apply nowadays. Human nature may not change, but our attitudes and respones to it should.
