05/01/02: I was thinking that myself

The radio-station is extremely male-oriented, so the lack of female presence on stage (other than DJs) wasn't that surprising, but last year they at least had Kittie, which gave the impression that women were welcome up there. And if it had been WHITE Zombie instead of ROB Zombie, there would have been at least a female bassist this year. But, no, I don't think a single woman was part of any musical act. Then again, I missed a whole lot of the minor acts, so I don't know for sure. Now that I think about it, Veruca Salt is the only female-led band the station has played a great deal of in the past five years or so. Hey, I'm just happy they allowed a black guy on the stage! (Sevendust's lead singer, of course.) That's progress!

Heather Nova will be in town later this month for another music festival put on by a slightly more feminine alt rock station. But the only other act that's part of that one which I like somewhat is Live so it's not likely I'll be going to that one. My favorite female-led acts like Sleater Kinney, Luscious Jackson, Elastica and Juliana Hatfield never make it to this neck of the woods, although Tori Amos shows up about once a year.
