Thing is, Sayles is trying to do a buildup, but winds up with none, or a weak one...
As for not knowing his issues, he mixes in too many bordertown issues with racial issues in "Lone Star", for example, while making mistakes, or adding material that doesn't fit together (hey, when was the last time you saw a poor Texas border town in the desert that had not only a military base but a high african-american population?). Or in "Men With Guns" he screws up by only giving sensationalism in touching a great issue...
