Well, I dunno about that "Average Academy Member" statistic... Seems lately that many more quality films are being nominated, perhaps by an influx of younger folks who actually SEE movies - and I only hope it continues. (Though I'm not sure why, being as bitter as I am...) But anyway, Lone Star was a trial. My eyes were on the ceiling more than the screen, and it hurt me greatly. I still get a pang of anger when people insist on it's quality, but, to each his own... You wanna talk best films of 96, no one can dispute Fargo, but what about Sling Blade? It should have been in every Oscar category, with Shine out the window. But, that's just my own...
