I loved Lone Star. I'm from South Africa, and the movie might have had a special message for here. Something about the places you go to in life are pretty much dictated by the places you come from. Pretty obvious. What I liked was the way the characters were not doomed by their histories, but could learn the lessons from them and move on. It was important for them at least to confront where they cam from. Although Sayles obviously respects history he doesn't let it dictate to radically. For example the history of the love affair between the half-siblings, doesn't damn it at all. In other words, you can transcend history. I think thats what psychologists tell us anyway.
