12/27/02: Gandalf & the Balrog

<paraphrasing in between actual work>

They fell for a long time, and eventually came to the bottom of the abyss. The deep water there quenched the Balrogs flame, and a thing of slime he was. Long did they fight, in the dark bowels of the mountains; then the Balrog did try to flee. Through ancient tunnels the Balrog fled, and Gandalf did chance, until they rose to the dpeths of Khazad-Dűm. The Lost Endless Stair they climbed, up unto Durins Tower. Great Flame and Smoke was begot from the fight, and Gandolf threw the Balrog down. Darkness took Gandalf, and he wandered far roads; but he was sent back. And so amid the ruin of the peaks, Gwaihir found him, and bore him to Lothlórien.
