Well, the island is starting to make sense. Can you say Forbidden Planet?
Think of something, get it... Thus all the flash backs show us why things were happening and tie the past/sub conscience into the island present events.
The "Others" may be the demons and doubts that the survivors have... and Jack has made him self into a hero by needing to save one of them, their leader. No wonder the others are always right there and know what's up. It's that or they are just people who live there, and have discovered this effect and are using it. Even Forbidden Planet had its local residents.
Think of all the "granted wishes":
John can walk...
Sun gets pregnant... (Not sure if who's wish this is)
Charlie gets low on drugs bingo a plane full...
Walt reads about a polar bear... oops!
Nightmares about someone taking your baby... doh!
Someone imagnined a huge statue, with 4 toes... typical non-
artist making a statue, forget one or another obvious
feature...
Need dynamite, get it. Think your going to blow up if you
are not careful... oops!
Feeling down, need some supplies... they fall from the sky!
Need a car to fix to make you feel better, bingo!
Want to get a girlfriend, particularly a cute one from your
past mental institution you had a crush on... no problem.
Yea, this finally makes sense in a sideways way. Now the only real questions are ones about "how". Does the island do this? Was there even an Island before the plane crash? Is it all in someone's mind and they are imagining it?
Yep, just need to know the how now... the why seems VERY well sewn up. I think there may have only been one survivor and that one person has "wished" up all the other people on the island based on past interactions. They do all seem to be related in some way.
What do you think?
