Awful, awful, and even more awful is the most succinct way to describe the intolerable waste of my hard earned cash that is Mad City. Hoffman's character is Captain Morality in the clip on the beach with Hock Eye (or whomever Alda is trying to be), then is reduced to Geraldo when the opportunity presents itself, then transforms back to Mr. Ethical when he fears he'll lose the story. I didn't get it. His ingenue assistant plays out the cliche of "Oh, no--I've created a monster!!" all too predictably, and even the children in the movie are unrealistic, laughing and giggling while Travolta menaces the museum directer with a shotgun; little kids actually get frightened more easily than adults and simply wouldn't act that way. It, in short, sucked.
