Mr. Schmolsky appears to be a budding sociologist who is in dire need of a glossary to introduce him to a wider scope of sociological jargon than "Gen X". He should also try and remember that Magnolia was a film - not a socio-political manifesto preaching the dangers of society's decline to paranoid "hyper-moralists" (what the fuck is that?). Could pt anderson really be thinking of "selling tickets to jaded Gen Xers" as he writes, produces, films and edits such an ambitious piece. I think even Mother Teresa would have agreed that there is some morality within everyone - talking monkeys included - and that our search for that morality often takes us through some strange circumstances. To see this universal concept explored DRAMATICALLY (please note the word "drama" is found on one of those signs at the video store) through the portrayal of well written, well acted characters in a visually stunning film was a rewarding experience for this film buff. 1999's best film.
