12/23/01: Re: ABOUT JIM CARREY AND FILMS ABOUT MEMORY LOSS/IDENTITIES

1) So is Jim Carrey seriously trying to get an oscar or is he in it for the money?

Both - his asking price is really huge, yet he said recently that he has no interest in doing any more sequels to his films (which is bad news for those who wanted to see the big screen version of The Grinch Grinches The Cat in the Hat)

2) What's your favorite Jim Carrey film or performance (you can name a skit he did for that Wayans show)?

Best film - Truman Show; funniest film - The Mask

3) How many films have you seen that feature a character suffering from memory loss and/or mistaken identity and don't you wish this film could get its own genre like say westerns? It could be called the amnesia genre or something.

Let's see - there was Memento, Clean Slate (with Dana Carvey), Dave (Kevin Kline gets mistaken for the President), Vertigo, and a few others. Since its split between comedies, drama, and suspense flicks, there's no need for a seperate genre...

4) Do you ever wish you could just go somewhere far away and change your name and identity (duh) and start all over again? Feel free to extrapolate on this question such as saying that you'd get plastic surgery to look like Osama bin Ladin etc.

I wish that every damn day - hell, once I get a girl, I might try and run away with her...

5) Is it really that easy to mistake people's identities? I mean I know it works for Clark Kent and Superman, but I'm just sayin'.

Well, a lot of people look alike - I was recently mistaken for some guy from Florida who was missing.

6) If you could impersonate someone with money/power, and with some risk involved, would you do it?

Probably not - I really don't want to pretend to be someone else full-time.

7) Ever lose your memory (short episodes are permissible) or know someone that lost their memory?

I forget shit a lot, but I've never had amnesia...

8) Would you rather lose your memory or a body part?

Memories can be regained...
