Both men are enormously talented, both as comedians and serious actors.
Is every single piece of work they've done great? No. Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls and Patch Adams are two really shitty movies, off the top of my head. I think most actors can list a bomb or two on their resume, but that doesn't negate their talent at all. To say they're not gifted performers is bullshit.
And Edgar, that "man-ape" Robin Williams was about as perfect as perfect can be, as Sean Mcguire in Good Will Hunting. Ditto for Jim Carrey in The Truman Show.
