04/26/03: WWE Backlash preview:

Posted By: M_H

Mediocre-looking PPV for a mediocre month. I'm gonna miss Jeff Hardy - back when he gave a shit, he was one hell of an in-ring risktaker (especially in the TLC matches). Anyways, :

--Goldberg v. The Rock

Rock's leaving to make another movie and Goldberg's been heavily hyped, so I think Goldberg will probably win, after what's hopefully a good match (also hopefully not too short - I rarely watched him on WCW, but my understanding is that Goldberg specialized in short squash-type matches).

Prediction - Goldberg wins (not sure "who's next" though...)

--Nash, HBK & Booker T v. HHH, Flair & Jericho

Just what we needed - the long-awaited return of the Clique (if Scott Hall and X-Pac resurface here, I might just have to stop watching RAW in protest). I'm guessing that the face team will win, but either Nash or HBK will turn heel.

Prediction - The faces win, the Clique reigns behind the scenes.

--SmackDown title: Brock Lesnar v. John Cena

Cena's really grown on me - at first, I thought the "white boy rapper" gimmick would turn him into another goofy midcarder like Scotty 2 Hotty (is he still employed by WWE?) but it's actually worked out better then I thought it would. I'd like Cena to win the title at some point, but not just yet (this kind of thing makes me wish they still had some of the lesser belts around - Cena would've made a great IC champ...)

Prediction - Lesnar wins, but Cena still looks like a contender.

--Women's Title: Trish Stratus v. Jazz

Trish, Jazz and Victoria are all decent wrestlers, but it seems like they've been just going up against each other in one way or another for the last several months - there really needs to be some new blood in the women's division. To that end, maybe Jazz should win here...

Prediction - Jazz wins.

--Big Show v. Rey Mysterio

I'd really like to see Rey win here, but I heard that Show might be the main contender for the SD title next month, and that'd never work if he got his ass kicked by a guy 350 pounds lighter then him. I just hope this isn't a squash...

Prediction - Big Show wins, audience doesn't care.

--RAW Tag Titles: Dudley Boyz v. RVD & Kane

The Dudleyz appear to be about to break up and feud with each other, so it wouldn't make sense for them to win here.

Prediction - RVD & Kane win (and hopefully find a way to get people to care about them again).

--SmackDown Tag Titles: Los Guerreros v. Team Angle

I hope Kurt's able to make an appearance here, even if he's not able to physically do anything. As for the match, it's pretty much a coin flip - let's say, the Guerreros win.

Prediction - Decent match, won by Los Guerreros.

--Sean O'Haire v. Rikishi

Rikishi's been very good as a "stepping stone" for the last few years, and I see him being used in that role again for O'Haire. There will probably be "dirty tricks" involved thanks to Piper, but hopefully O'Haire will come out looking good.

Prediction - O'Haire wins, hopefully does more of that cool gimmick that all those video promos refered to.
