09/14/05: I agree with Psycho (to a point)...

Education is very important if people want to escape poverty - just throwing money at poor people isn't necessarily going to help them. Regardless of economic status, there are always going to be people who know how to spend money wisely, and there are always going to be people who "throw away" any money they get. A lot of people go on and on about how poor people (especially poor blacks) "throw money away", are "illegitimate" and "bilk the system", yet most of the people making these complaints are well-off and have always been well-off (grundle, I don't know your economic status, but I'm guessing it's not too bad). Seems to me that if someone doesn't understand poverty, they're not in any position to make sweeping claims about how poor people are "illegitimate" or how they "take advantage of the system"...
