I lived in Santa Cruz, CA for 4 years - met plenty of people who actually do fit the stereotypes which a lot of people have about liberals (theorize about everything, are a little too quick to blame the U.S. government for everything that goes wrong (and this was when Clinton was in office - he was too centerist for them), care a bit too much about their pet causes, see racism/sexism/homophobia everywhere, etc). Of course, I also met (and currently know) plenty of people with liberal belief systems who do not fit those stereotypes - hell, most people I know are liberal on some issues and conservative on others (though by and large, they can't stand Bush...)
