09/14/05: Joking aside, what I meant with my first post:

So if you as a society got poor, uneducated people, the best thing society can do about that is to educate those people at least.

And then you can give them money. Before that time however, get them a guardian or whatever who watches over their spending (or who pays the bills for them (not jewelry)). That's what they do in Holland and other socialist countries.

It's what Oprah Winfrey found out herself: first she gave large amounts of money to a few selected families. When checking after some time she found out they had mostly blown it all. It was only then that Oprah started listening to more intelligent relief-workers who told her to put the money in organizations that aid and guide poor people to a better life.

Just giving money is like giving money to uneducated people is like giving money to a little kid.
