Well, to give a brief background...
About 10 years ago a passed up a job with PIXAR because of stupidity. I just finished my third month at this other software company, not thinking that RenderMan wasn't going to take off (what a fool I was). I would have had 5 years vested and then Toy Story would have released! I still kick myself to this very day (*KICK* Ow, quit'it!) I've personally spent time with John Lasseter, Eggelston and Pete, let me tell you Pete is *truly* "The Doctor". This man is so amazingly talented I always felt dwarfed in his presence.
...but of course, I've also met Jobs, but it was at an Apple party in Manhattan in '99. It was when he was then "not yet" Apple CEO again. It was too funny because I didn't have a care in the world about the soon to be Apple deal. First thing I said to him when were introduced was "Glad to meet you and congratulations with your success of PIXAR". Boy did I get a big smile out of him!
Anyway, Eggleston is the master of design. This guy has always been into it since he and Lasseter were working for Lucas back in the early 80's. Of course back then they were using Cray's instead of SGI's (old school). I was intrigued with the company only after watching Red's Dream at a Spike and Mike's. After that I have followed this company since. I still check there stock on a regular basis and have a great intuition as to when it will rise and fall.
When RenderMan first released to the public, I started using a version on the Mac. I was so impressed with the possibilities of this software that I had to work for them(* KICK* Ow, quit'it!). But, after 3 months at another company I got attached with/to the company(*KICK* Ow, quit'it!).
Coaster - MI is a *huge* improvement in texture mapping and shading, that I was blown away when I watched it this weekend. The scene where he loses it in the snow, to me, was a PIXAR masterpiece! That scene of him lying face down in the snow has replaced my Toy Story fave scene(from an animation and RenderMan aspect) Eggelston truly out did himself. I really wish I could go back 10 years and... (*KICK* Ow, quit'it!)
...oh did I mention the Final Fantasy was done using RenderMan (.: Yet another PIXAR masertpiece by design. Eggelston is the man!
I could go on for hours about PIXAR, just love what has happened with them (well, except for the Big D agreement).
Oh well... shoulda, coulda, woulda(*KICK* Ow, quit'it!)
