11/07/01: That paragraph makes perfect sense, if you read the ENTIRE paragraph.

You only quoted *part* of the paragraph.

Here's the ENTIRE paragraph:

"As little as three years ago Argentina's "currency board" monetary system was the subject of extravagant praise in publications like Forbes and The Wall Street Journal, and economists at the Cato Institute established lucrative consulting practices advising other countries to mimic Argentina's approach."

This is a very good policy. In recent years, Argentina has had no substantial amount of inflation.

Just about every economist agrees that having a stable currentcy is a good economic policy. Most economists believe that substantial amounts of inflation are bad for the economy.

That complete paragraph says that Cato and Forbes and WSJ encouraged other countries to adopt Argentina's *monetary* policy. That's a good idea.

But you only quoted *part* of the paragraph, and the way you did it, you made it look like Cato, Forbes, and WSJ were encouraging other countries to adopt ALL of Argentina's economic policies. What you did was not accurate.

Having a sound, stable currency is good econonmic policy. Argentina has benefitted from it.

Agentina's economic problems are caused by *other* factors. Specifically, they have too many trade barriers, and their judicial system is too heavily influenced by political factors. Cato, WSJ, and Forbes are all AGAINST these policies.
