My oh my, but this must be a tough time to be a Libertarian! You'd think private security companies, paying employees $6 an hour could make airplanes safe, particularly in this time of heightened awareness about the safety of air travel, but you'd better think again.

But Free Market devotees like Dick Armey and Tom DeLay of Texas think it would be just too much trouble to recruit and maintain a professional, highly trained force of screeners. After all, when these princes of the U.S.A. fly, they just call up and get a couple of Sky Marshals to fly with them! The rest of you? You're on your own.
