In that film capital of the world, where all the important pictures make sure to debut, yup, Portland.
Excellent cinematography. Just incredible texture, lines, shadows, and images. A gorgeous film. Sit as close as your eyes will let you.
The story? Anh. 50-50. Several recurring motifs, including flying saucers, so you know it wasn't all bad. Very slowly paced. Be sure to pick up a coffee on the way to the theater.
Acting was first rate except, surprisingly, for Michael Baddalucco (or however you spell his name), the short, harried lawyer from The Practice. His character stuck out like a sore thumb and was almost superfluous. Thornton, Dormand, Gandolfini, all just great.
I have a feeling that this one will reward repeated viewings as well, though, so my estimation of the story may go up. Right now, I'd put it alongside The Big Lebowski, which I have also seen only once, in second tier of the Coen Brothers' oeuvre.
