One of the first movies in my lifetime was Frederic March's version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde which I saw at the George Eastman House Dryden theater when I was about three. I was afraid of movies and the dark and my room and everything else for the next six months. For the next few years whenever I went to a movie, I would ask my Dad "It's not like Dr. Jekyll is it" Last night I rented the video Mary Reilly. If I would have seen that at three years old probably the absurd alien thing at the end would have freaked me but I'm pretty sure I would have been fast asleep far before I reached that point. The film is ugly, dull, offensive, pretentious and a very justified box office disaster. I hate Malkovich when he acts like that and I can't stand Roberts. Doesn't Close look foolish? A crappy film.
