John Malkovich rescued parts this movie with his dignified psycho composure, but Julia Roberts can't do accents for shit. Who died and bequeathed the casting responsibilities for this turkey? You'd think that a British filmmaker could find someone who can actually maintain British accents without slipping into a US southern drawl! This movie would have rocked had Minnie Driver been cast as Mary Reilly. But Roberts really made this film blow chunks with precision, and further into the movie, her "acting" sunk the movie beyond the point which Malkovich could recover.
