J. Malkovich had the acting talent of a mole in this film. He was fake, unbelievable...even his Dr. Hyde scenes were tired and predictable. Julia Roberts as a weak little mouse of a maid was just as bad. Her fake british accent was horrible...it was unnatural. Julia Roberts is a great acctress, but she was improperly cast for this role. The scenery was drab...neutrals everywhere...there was no excitement or 'fright' in it. And what about the eel that was slaughtered at the beginning of the film?? What was that for? It added nothing to the movie...it was just placed there to add minutes to the film or what? This is one of those movies where the only person to really blame is the director and producer. Only they could make Roberts and Malkovich appear pitifully and embarrassingly idiotic in a film.
