Honestly, he's crap! It's not just the truly terrible American accent either. He just can't act. His success and prominence stems from the usual fad-happy Hollywood casting monkeys and the fact that, once again, the Let's-Put-An-Aussie-In-Everything-We-Make cycle is upon us once again.
Also, he's a wimp who loses every fight he gets into, besides that time he and his bodyguards threatened an elderly homosexual Brit producer. Even then Crowe was nervous.
