There isn't much difference (except for the mandatory sedation) between The Matrix and THX. THX is a wonderful (and depressing) story. Look at the world around you today. "You" can't sit through thirty minutes of television without seeing pharmacutical advertisements. "Everyone" is scared to death that the government has "everything" bugged. And "everyones" favorite shows on T.V. are the ones that involve realistic, high speed chases on the freeway. It's like he (Lucas) saw it coming. And everyone calls the brothers genius because they flipped one sub-genre switch? ITS THX. ITS 1984. Just because it's cyberpunk doesn't mean it isn't the same premise. "Would you like a blue pill or a red pill?" THX went with a red pill and found out that it wasn't all that glamorous. So did the guy in 1984 and got the same results. I'd like to see Neo and THX have a political debate about the benefits of rebelling against a machine heirarchy.
