Im the guy who said it didnt need a sequel and in fact, I did do my homework. Firstly, in several interviews joel silver and the wachowskis referred to the fact that Zion was to be in the first movie but budget constraints wouldnt allow it. This would quite easily suggest to someone WHO DOESNT HAVE TO TYPE LIKE THIS that they rejigged the concept to allow for a self contained movie. Secondly, by their own admission, Reloaded and Revolutions are, as I stated, one movie cut in half. That makes it not a trilogy. And as a little bonus, it has been quite fashionable for the past few years that once your sci fi of fantasy movie is successful enough for a sequel, the creators say the intended it to be a trilogy all along. If you want to raise issues with my points, its your god given right. But dont point the finger saying I didnt do my homework, especially considering how easy it was for me to get all this information. Thats right! I watched the first movie and the dvd features. Easiest research I ever did.
The philosophies are an amalgamation of points from christianity, greek myth and any number of fashionable eastern religions. Depth of writing is not depth of thinking.
And one last thing, people saying that we cannot criticise because we dont make movies? The paying public give warners the money to pay everybody involved. We pay their wages. That is all the justification anybody needs to say what they think. If I had an employee who disappointed me as much as that movie did, I would have to ask some serious questions. I really enjoyed the first movie, and still do, but is it wrong for me to say that when I dont make movies?
