What are you talking about?! What's not to understand? It's not like 2001, or Stalker where you absolutely need to read the book in order to make sense of 2.5 hours of almost abstract imagery.
It's a goofy fairy tale with everything spelled out for the viewer in brutal detail. The question isn't "can you get it" the question is "what part of it didn't you get?!" Please tell me and I will explain it to you. (and I have never played the game nor seen more than 5 minutes of the initial animatrix cartoon on the web, which was so fantastcially moronic that I tripped over myself getting the mouse to the X at the top right corner of the window).
btw, as I said before, I enjoyed this movie a lot, I just don't understand where the confusion lies as to what it's about.
