but it did end... remember how the whole movie proceeded as like all that junk the architect was saying at the end of the first movie? that's exactly what happened... zion was destroyed, trinity died... the thing is that's it's all simply going to start over again, back to square one. so the sequel to the 3rd movie is the first movie. the thing i didn't get at the end of the third movie was why the architect said "they can all go free." like all the people trapped in the matrix, after all this time, fighting, and oppression, they can just suddenly go free. "Ok, seeya guys! sorry about that whole 'locking you in a tub of goo and feeding you the gelified remains of your relatives'! lets do lunch."
i think that The Animatrix, the series of nine short matrix cartoons, really fleshes out this story quite a bit, but mostly just makes it seem all the more unlikely that there could be a peaceful resolution (revolution?) at the end of it all. The Animatrix deals with some deep- seated, long standing issues of hatred between man and machine.
