I saw this posted on imdb. I still haven't seen the movie, but was wondering if this sums it up or not:
Ok, about 3 hours ago I went into the cinema, Matrix3 showing. I missed the first (3-5?) minutes, the first thing I saw was Neo sitting head-to-head with Bane and they were talking about an EMP going off and destroying many ships (not hard to guess what actually happened).
Going into the movie KNOWING what would happend (read the full spoiler - lol, what a nice touch to include false info in it ; also many forums with comments, etc) I didn't expect much from the movie... so I was pleasantly surprised to see the movie wasn't *so* bad as people were telling it was.
All things considered, I can only say ONE (really bad) thing about the movie: Matrix 2 + Matrix 3 would have made a great 2-hour movie put together (Matrix 2 of 1h 10-20 mins and Matrix 3 about 40-50 minutes).
Matrix 3 is 90+% just an action movie... all would be "deep" stuff is either a weak "conclusion" of something from Matrix 1 or 2... or just lame.
The ONLY things people around seemed NOT to understand (everywhere I read comments about it) about Matrix 3 was the underlying "logic" and the supporting facts (really, you can sum it up in a *long* paragraph)... so here it is:
For the first time, "we" (humans) have a (weak) chance to put a halt to the war with the machines... with the usual sacrifices any war brings in the process... the Architect tried to force Neo's (#6) hand to re-meld with "the source", but forgot (if it ever knew about it) one factor - Agent Smith. He (apparently) became so powerfull only when he was "blown to bits" by Neo in the end of Matrtix 1... actually, he melded with him and became his counterpart, absorbing (by accident) in the process a part of Neo's "essence" (Oracle: "he is you"... but the opposite part of the equation). Also a side-effect is that when he absorbs somebody turning it into a new "agent Smith" he's gaining all his knowledge, but not only (see the end part when he starts to stutter oracle's words). Neo lets himself re-meld with him (the entity that caused his powers initially), and this way the machines can re-gain control while Neo's body is in their power... and restore most of what's left to "normal" (all absorbed/virused ones revert to what they were, free of Smith's control).
The "very end" conversation is also pretty misunderstood, IMHO. When the kid asks the Oracle about "will we ever see (Neo) again" and she(?) answers something like "I think so", it actually means a 7th Neo, and not the 6th! Also, when the Oracle questions the Architect about "and what about the ones that want out" and he says "they will be left out" they mean THE HUMANS in the Matrix coming out and joining Zion, and not freeing programs like the young girl (as many understood that line). These last 2 facts combined actually make sense: there will always be "the One" (number 7 and so on) that will SELECT who wants to get out and who doesn't (as he always has), without having the others (that don't really want out) actually knowing they live in the Matrix (if all would know, chaos would ensue and the war will restart). Also, there will be people in Zion that would actually WANT to be reinserted into the Matrix (remember Cypher?), so some sort of "equilibrium" will be preserved... even without a "cyclic" war of Zion's periodic eradication.
In conclusion: this movie was a much too long action-movie made as an excuse for a conclusion that could have been made in the end of Matrix 2... while still leaving room for a "Matrix 4" in case something brings that fragile balance tumbling down... the risk is much higher now as it used to be.
