Wow, what a fucked up and disturbing film. It starts out fun, with the viewer knowing things are going to go bad but not sure how. Hot babes, nudity galore, and a fun exaggeration of the horny American backpacker stereotype. But the second half of the film is truly disturbing.
I think I liked it, despite some obvious flaws. (No one saw the protagonist, Jesse Hernandez and the one-eyed Nippon hottie he rescued, while they were escaping from the factory, driving like maniacs through Bratislava, or trying to stay hidden at the train station?) But I can't see a need to see either of its sequels.
And it also makes me curious if I should rent Saw? Which one is better - Hostel or Saw?
Although disturbed and grossed out, I nevertheless give Hostel a "B" for originality.
