Dark and with a bit too much plot for its own good (too much time spent on Demi Moore's character back story), but I like the bits with Costner debating with his alter ego, Hurt.
I didn't see The Guardian...but I hear Costner is quite good in The Upside of Anger. Maybe he just needed a few years away from Hollywood and from A-list epics. He did two too many 3-hour-plus movies for his own good.
