Erik Estrada was one of the only Latino actors to be a star of a hit show during the 1970's. He's kind of the symbol of the Americanized Latino, California style. That is, his characters entailed the passionate and tireless ways of the Latino with the cool dude, laid back qualities of a California dude. Somehow his name is catchy and easy to remember, though I would hardly say that he is a laughingstock along the lines of Gary Coleman, that little brother will do anything for a buck these days.
