In Chips he played this motorcycle cop named "Ponch" who was really thrilled with everything that had to do with himself. He was a macho narcissistic asshole stuffed into his overtight uniform, the kind of cop you might find south of the border harrassing women on the street or shaking down tourists for cash. I hated Ponch! He was a shallow arrogant prick and one got the feeling that Eric Estrada played him right from the heart, that no actual acting was involved. Most people who know who he is, I venture to say, think of him as actually being Ponch and that Sir is the root of his well deserved downfall. I liken his career to a lightbulb steadily burning, a lightbulb, blown glass containing a vacuum. His career, like the bulb, once breached -imploded- and he was left in irretrievable darkness.
Or at least one had hoped.
