This movie was really good! Not great, but good enough. It was better than HERCULES,which is saying a lot. The only gripes I have with this movie are the careless "Americanisms" that they let slip.(How did that cricket get a tiny drum set? And where did he get SUNGLASSES?!) Plus, only two people in this movie could actually sing, and none of the songs were memorable.(I didn't know B.D. Wong could sing so well!) Also, the villain's death was ripped off of BROKEN ARROW.(And yes, there WAS some stuff borrowed from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.)And the line "Then you'll bow to me in PIECES!" How do you DO that? How exactly do you cut someone to pieces and then arrange their corpse so that they're bowing to you? It can't be DONE!
Now,for the good stuff. There was some excellent dialogue. ("How many messengers does it take to carry a message?...") Plus, there was the only use of an ancient martial art-called Tessenjutsu-I've ever seen in a movie.(It's an art based on the deadly use of a fan.) The voicework was wonderful, especially Miguel Ferrer-the character he plays is probably face-to-face with that little kid's doll right now. Eddie Murphy was pretty funny, especially the scene with the panda. The avalance scene was classic.
Go see this movie! It's not BEAUTY AND THE BEAST,but it's great anyway!
