funny, you'd think that someone who spends 5 months of the year in dallas might know that.
anyway, i didn't get to bring this point up in class, but i hope that maybe the topic will come up again. i think that, where i go to school, the idea of "fitting in" is extremely important to a lot of students. this doesn't necessarily mean that everyone has to be exactly the same (although i challenge anyone to find a more homogenous campus), but it does mean that you should fit a specified definition. by this i mean, if you're an artist, you'd better dress in black and act depressed all the time. if you're a jock, you'd better wear snappy pants and sneakers and be really macho. if you're gay, you'd better be flaming.
by these definitions, a gay jock might not be well-accepted because he doesn't fit the exact and narrow definition of what a jock should be OR what a gay person should be.
