This is so much more exciting than if you had taken us to the British Consulate. I haven't spoken with such an exciting group of people since - well, since we left the train. The men are all so mysterious, with their accents, their Continental manners and their briefcases full of documents. And the women are jolly arresting, too - they certainly think very well of you, Sidney. Do you know ALL of them by their first names?
The only thing is, everyone seems to spend most of their time watching everyone else. And while it's wonderful to have access to the saunas - Tristan found the men's right away - someone really needs to re-plaster the walls, Sidney. Why, because there are small holes drilled all over them! A recipe for drafts, you know, and pneumonia, especially given the weather this time of year. I learnt that in my basic nurses' training.
Henry would just die, Sidney, if he knew I was talking to you unaccompanied - he's so unemancipated - but I wanted to find out about something that nice Mr. Reed in Room 34 told me about - he and that Louise Bryant make such a sweet couple, don't they? Anyway, Sidney, he mentioned a women's battalion. You know, with jolly trousered uniforms and spanking new rifles.
Do they have a matching men's battalion? It's something I want to surprise Tristan with.
