Look at this map, will you! I tell you we are on the wrong side of the Red Sea! You would not listen to me when I told you that we should take that other train in Damascus to get to Egypt and then down the Nile. Now we are on our way to who knows where, surrounded by sand on all sides! Who declared you were in charge?
It has been over a month now that we escaped that boiling cauldron in St. Petersburg, in which we were lucky to get out with our lives and whatever belongings we were carrying, and you have done nothing but bungle this whole affair since. We are nowhere nearer to Zurich than when we left!
I waited until we were away from the ladies to say this, but I these new surroundings are less to my liking than Lenin's basement, if that is possible. Have you heard the porters on this train talking about some sort of Arab revolt against the Ottoman Empire? That is exactly what we do not need, to land in the middle of another armed insurrection! Do you have any idea who this Lawrence is we keep hearing about? English army chap, by all accounts, but sounds rather a loose cannon. Perhaps if we were to contact him, he could assist in getting us back to more civilized lands?
Look at that, will you! My goodness! Did you see what those two camels were doing? That is certainly not something you would see on Spiegelgasse Street. I am most glad that Gwendolen and Cecily were not here to see that.
