07/20/00: Re: Mr Cranky is a hypocrite...

I'm gonna have to agree, here. Mr. Cranky said sensible, meaning, with some sense.

Like, Pet Semetery does not end sensibly. It could end in a semi-chilling way at just about any point after Gage kills his mommy. It could end when Daddy picks mommy's mangled corpse up (we know he's gonna make the same mistake again), actually, it could end when Daddy kills Gage, but does it end? No.

For me, the best ending of Ninth Gate would have been when Frank Langella's character sets himself on fire. It would have supported Depp's character's confused apathy and sort of supported the idea that was being reinforced, up until then, that Satanists are not the brightest people on Earth.

The fundamentalists who won't let Polanski stay in the US would probably have hired someone to kill him if he'd intimated that their favourite enemy was less than compitent at every point in his film, so we have to concede that the director of the Fearless Vampire Killers (or whatever that pap was called) doesn't have as much Chutzpah (but certainly has more sense) than Salmon Rushdie.
