Imagine being the most powerful man in the world. It shouldn't be any surprise then that many Presidents have exhibited paraniod behavior, but how many can you say would have been a clinically diagnosed paranoid personality?
Of course my opinion about Nixon was based on a book I read once as a child about him. It was basically a psychological evaluation of Nixon based upon what was known of the man at the time (the book being published in 1973 or 74). I don't even remember the name of it, nor could I tell you whether it was a valid source of information but it irrevocably tarnished my vision of this man.
Your comment about Jefferson is quite interesting. I've never heard this, but then again, most of what is said about the early presidents is littered with hero-worship and nostalgia for our "founding fathers." There was a Ken Burns special on just last week about him (starring none other than your'e favorite historian: Gore Vidal).
I don't think Clinton is paranoid. Manipulative and shrewd maybe, but not like dear old Nixon. Bill Clinton has basically been an average president, nothing special. Far more scandalous things than what Clinton is suspected of being involved with have been done in the past.
