My relationship with this girl--- frankly, I'm afraid of her. She's big, she's mean, she's violent, she used to stand around bragging about how she got pissed off at her cow one day, punched him in the nose and knocked him out cold. Plus she lives 1/2 a mile away from me. This incident occurred in a hospital during a night shift when she was in charge. I had observed the extremely obvious fact that another nurse's patient was dying. I figured he was a no code, but was curious as to why since he was awfully damn young. I asked said nurse, who said," He's not dying, he's fine." I explained to her that he was in fact dying and presented a shit load of evidence to support my belief. She insisted that the doctor would be called by day shift when they came in. I went over her head, and ordered stat labs to be drawn. Of course, when the lab tech came up, the man's circulation had pretty much stopped altogether. The man died 2 hours before the day shift showed up. His family was told that he suddenly and unexpectedly threw a pulmonary embolus. This event heralded the single most fucked up year of my life, and I have no desire to relive any part of it. Do you have a clue as to what happens to hospital whistle blowers??? I can honestly say I would probably look the other way if faced with the same situation again.
