What caused Spiderman to lose control of his abilities and what allowed him to get it back?
They tried explaining it with the two scenes involving the doctor and Aunt May's hero speech. But true to the character's form, Peter Parker had to dance around that issue so much I never got a really good sense of what could be troubling him so much to lose focus with his abilities. Then when he tried gaining more confidence and focus after May's speech he still ended up losing that focus on his superpowers.
From what I could gather ignoring these seemingly critical scenes Spiderman lost control of his powers because he was overworked and overstressed. Once MJ became engaged it started a psycological avalanche that kept him from being able to use his spider enhanced abilities because his consciousness was preoccupied over the definite loss with MJ.
He regained full control of his abilities once the one thing that was distracting him coincided with his need to use his abilities.
