06/01/1999: Notting Hill as Political Satire...

Posted By: ornamental_lady

Well, Mr. Cranky...while not great theater on any level, I found Notting Hill to be pleasant summer fare. I can identify with Anna Scott's attraction to the bookshop owner, William Thacker, as my own boyfriend is equally as exciting. Besides...he is also the type who would sit on a garden bench with me as we both read our respective novels. (Thankfully, though, I would NOT be pregnant.)

I found the T-shirt selection scene to be worth the price of admission.....but must admit that the highpoint of the coup-de-grace for me was seeing Alec Ballwin play so pefectly the part of an overweight, unrefined, self-absorbed, arrogant, wanna-be ladies man. Reminded me of Ballwin's own political bosom buddy... Bill Clinton.
